About Us
At Evergreen Roots Nursery, we believe trees are more than just plants—they are living legacies that shade our yards, purify our air, support wildlife, and turn ordinary spaces into vibrant, breathing sanctuaries. Founded in 2010, we set out to redefine what it means to grow and share trees: combining expert horticultural care, a passion for biodiversity, and a commitment to helping every customer “plant with purpose”—whether you’re landscaping a new home, restoring a community park, or adding a single meaningful tree to your backyard.
Our story began in a small, family-owned plot of land where our founder, Maria Carter (a lifelong arborist and environmental science graduate), noticed a gap in the market: too many nurseries sold generic, poorly adapted trees that struggled to thrive in local climates, leaving homeowners frustrated and disillusioned. Maria knew the best trees aren’t just “grown”—they’re matched to their environment, nurtured from saplings with care, and paired with the right guidance to help them flourish for decades. That’s why Evergreen Roots Nursery was built on three unshakable principles: quality that grows, expertise that guides, and care that lasts.
We Grow Trees for Every Space & Purpose
No two landscapes are the same—and neither are the trees that belong in them. We curate our collection to fit the unique needs of residential yards, commercial properties, community spaces, and ecological restoration projects, ensuring every tree we sell has the best chance to thrive:
Residential Trees: Turn Your Yard Into a Haven
Your backyard is an extension of your home, and our residential trees are designed to make it feel like a personal retreat. We offer four core categories tailored to common homeowner goals:
- Shade Trees: Mature, fast-growing varieties like oak (Quercus), maple (Acer), and elm (Ulmus) that provide cool relief from the sun—perfect for patios, play areas, or front yards. Our shade trees are grown to have strong, stable root systems (no invasive roots that damage sidewalks!) and are selected for disease resistance (e.g., Dutch elm disease-resistant elms).
- Flowering Trees: Bursting with color to elevate your landscape—think cherry blossoms (Prunus serrulata), dogwoods (Cornus florida), and crape myrtles (Lagerstroemia). These trees bloom in spring or summer, attract pollinators like bees and butterflies, and require minimal pruning to maintain their shape.
- Fruit Trees: Combine beauty and bounty with apple (Malus domestica), peach (Prunus persica), citrus (Citrus spp.), and pear (Pyrus communis) trees. We grow disease-resistant, self-pollinating varieties (great for small yards!) and offer dwarf options that fit in containers or tight spaces. Each fruit tree comes with a care guide to help you harvest fresh, homegrown fruit in 2–3 years.
- Privacy Trees: Create natural screens with evergreens like arborvitae (Thuja), Leyland cypress (Cupressocyparis leylandii), and holly (Ilex). These dense, year-round green trees grow quickly (2–3 feet per year) and block noise, wind, and prying eyes—no unsightly fences needed.
All residential trees are available in 5–15 gallon containers (young saplings) or ball-and-burlap (mature trees, 6–10 feet tall) to suit your timeline (saplings establish faster; mature trees give instant impact).
Commercial & Community Trees: Build Greener Spaces Together
Businesses and communities deserve trees that enhance their spaces and stand up to heavy use. Our commercial collection is designed for durability, low maintenance, and curb appeal:
- Landscaping for Businesses: We supply trees for office parks, retail centers, and hotels—think sleek, narrow columnar oaks (for tight parking lot medians) or flowering crape myrtles (to welcome customers). All commercial trees are selected for drought tolerance (to cut irrigation costs) and resistance to pests (no costly treatments!).
- Community & Public Spaces: We partner with cities, schools, and nonprofits to plant trees in parks, sidewalks, and schoolyards. Our street trees (like ginkgo biloba and London plane) are grown with strong trunks to withstand wind and foot traffic, and our shade trees for parks are chosen to provide large canopies for picnics and play. We also offer “heritage trees” (mature, iconic varieties like ancient oaks) for landmark projects (e.g., restoring a historic town square).
- Ecological Restoration: For conservation groups and landowners, we grow native trees (e.g., native oaks, hickories, and dogwoods) that support local ecosystems. These trees provide food and shelter for birds, bees, and butterflies, and help restore natural habitats (e.g., reforesting a wetland or stabilizing a hillside).
Specialty Trees: For Unique Visions
Some projects need something extra—and our specialty collection delivers:
- Rare & Exotic Trees: Hard-to-find varieties like Japanese maple (Acer palmatum), dawn redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides), and olive trees (Olea europaea) for homeowners who want a one-of-a-kind landscape.
- Dwarf & Bonsai Trees: Miniature trees (e.g., dwarf citrus, bonsai juniper) for small balconies, indoor spaces, or hobbyists. We include detailed care instructions to help even beginners keep these trees healthy.
- Heritage & Memorial Trees: Mature, slow-growing trees (like oak or cedar) for honoring loved ones or marking special milestones (e.g., a wedding, graduation, or business anniversary). We offer custom planting ceremonies (with a plaque, if desired) to make the moment meaningful.
Quality: Grown With Science & Care
We don’t just sell trees—we grow them to last. Every tree at Evergreen Roots Nursery goes through a rigorous, science-backed process to ensure it’s healthy, strong, and ready to thrive in your space:
Step 1: Smart Sourcing
We start with the best genetics. For native trees, we collect seeds from local forests (with permits!) to ensure they’re adapted to regional climates (e.g., drought-tolerant trees for the Southwest, cold-hardy trees for the North). For non-native varieties, we source cuttings and saplings from certified nurseries that follow organic growing practices (no GMOs, no harmful pesticides).
Step 2: Nurturing From Day One
Our nursery uses “slow-growth” methods to build strong root systems—we never rush trees with synthetic fertilizers (we use compost and organic amendments instead). Each tree is planted in well-drained soil, watered with a drip irrigation system (to conserve water), and pruned by certified arborists to promote balanced growth (no lopsided canopies!). We also protect saplings from deer, rabbits, and pests with natural repellents (no toxic chemicals).
Step 3: Rigorous Health Checks
Before any tree leaves our nursery, it undergoes a 5-point inspection:
- Root Health: No root rot, girdling roots (which strangle the tree), or damage.
- Trunk & Branches: Straight trunks (no cracks), strong branches (no weak crotches), and no signs of disease (e.g., fungus, blight).
- Foliage: Full, green leaves (or needles for evergreens) with no yellowing or browning.
- Pest-Free: No insects (e.g., aphids, borers) or eggs.
- Hardiness: Each tree is labeled with its USDA hardiness zone (so you know it will survive your winters!) and sun/water needs.
We’re so confident in our trees that we only sell those we’d plant in our own yards—and we’re happy to show you around our nursery (in-person or via virtual tour) to see our growing process firsthand.
Service: From Selection to Lifelong Care
Planting a tree should be exciting, not overwhelming—and we’re with you every step of the way:
Free Consultation & Site Analysis
Not sure which tree is right for you? Our certified arborists offer free 30-minute consultations (in-person or virtual). We’ll ask about your goals (shade? fruit? privacy?), measure your space, check your soil type (we bring a soil test kit!), and recommend 2–3 trees that fit your needs and climate. We never pressure you to buy—we just give you honest advice (e.g., “That oak will be too big for your 10x10 yard; let’s try a dwarf dogwood instead”).
Delivery & Planting
We make it easy to get your tree in the ground:
- Delivery: We deliver trees within 50 miles of our nursery (for free on orders over $200) and load them safely into your yard (we use a small crane for mature trees—no damage to your lawn!). For orders outside our delivery zone, we ship young saplings via FedEx (packaged with moist moss to keep roots healthy).
-
Professional Planting: Our team of arborists can plant your tree for you (fees start at
150 for mature trees). We dig the right-sized hole (twice as wide as the root ball!), add compost to the soil, plant the tree at the correct depth (no burying the trunk!), and mulch around the base (to retain moisture and prevent weeds). We also stake trees if needed (only temporarily—we don’t want to weaken the trunk!).
Post-Planting Support
Your tree’s first year is critical—and we’re here to help it thrive:
- Care Guide: Every tree comes with a personalized care sheet (watering schedule, pruning tips, fertilizer recommendations) based on its type and your climate.
- Follow-Up Check-In: 6 months after planting, we’ll give you a free phone or in-person check-in to answer questions (e.g., “Why are my tree’s leaves turning yellow?”) and make sure it’s establishing well.
- Warranty: All our trees come with a 1-year “Survival Warranty”—if your tree dies within the first year (through no fault of your own, e.g., not neglecting to water), we’ll replace it for free (or give you a full refund).
Our Mission: Grow a Greener Future
To date, we’ve sold and planted over 50,000 trees across the country—and every one of them is a step toward a healthier planet. We’re more than a nursery—we’re advocates for trees:
- Tree Planting Events: We host 4–6 community planting events each year (e.g., planting trees in underserved parks, partnering with schools for “Tree Campus” projects) and invite customers to join (it’s a great way to meet fellow tree lovers!).
- Sustainability: Our nursery runs on solar power, we collect rainwater for irrigation, and we recycle all our pots and packaging. We also donate 5% of every sale to local conservation groups that plant native trees.
- Education: We offer free workshops (in-person and online) on tree care, pruning, and native plant gardening—because we believe the more you know about trees, the more you’ll love them.
At Evergreen Roots Nursery, we know that planting a tree is an investment in the future. Whether you’re adding a shade tree for your kids to climb, a fruit tree to share with neighbors, or a native tree to help wildlife, we’re proud to be part of your journey.
Welcome to Evergreen Roots Nursery—where every tree has a story, and every story starts with you.
